Security Guard About Commissionaires Commissionaires is a not-for-profit provider of security services operating across Canada, with 15 divisions representing all provinces and three territories. Commissionaires Southern Alberta is responsible for providing professional security services in Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Suffield. For more than 100 years, Commissionaires has protected people and property for public and private sector clients from coast to coast. We are continually hiring responsible team members who wish to contribute to the security and well-being of Canadians. Our team is comprised of former military, police, and individuals of all ages working in roles such as General Security, Alarm Response, Concierge Services, Support to Law Enforcement, and Support to Government. As part of our ever-expanding workforce, we are currently hiring Security Guards. Position Summary The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment by patrolling and monitoring premises, controlling access, and enforcing security procedures. This role may involve responding to alarms, investigating disturbances, and reporting suspicious activities to appropriate authorities. Security Guards may also provide customer service, assist visitors, and ensure compliance with company policies and regulations. This position involves working in a variety of settings and requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Duties and Responsibilities Control access to establishments, issue passes if required, and direct or escort visitors Patrol assigned areas on foot or in vehicles to guard against theft, vandalism, and fire Enforce establishment regulations to maintain security and resolve conflicts Operate security control-room equipment to monitor premises Use computers and other devices to communicate with others Use clear and concise radio and emergency procedures to relay pertinent information Ensure established safety and emergency procedures are followed Respond to fire alarms, bomb threats, and other emergency situations Skills, Abilities & Educational Requirements Legally entitled to work in Canada Valid Alberta Security License Fluent in English (written, verbal, and reading) Valid First Aid certification or willingness to obtain Class 5 (Non-GDL) driver’s licence and clean driver’s abstract for driving positions (strong asset) Ability to use computers and learn technology devices (phones, security equipment) Positive attitude with a professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm in emergency situations Physically fit and able to stand, walk, or sit for long periods Exceptional attention to detail, including incident report writing Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including overnights and weekends Former RCMP or Military experience and military family members (strong asset) Education and/or background in Law Enforcement (strong asset) Working Conditions 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts, starting at any time of day, week, or year Prolonged periods of walking, sitting, or standing Indoor and outdoor work, including inclement weather Climbing or descending stairs What We Offer High wages within the industry Health and dental benefits Vision care Disability benefits Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Continuous learning environment Additional Information This list is not all-inclusive, and other business requirements may be included which the incumbent will be obliged to perform.
