Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma in Disaster (Risk) Management or relevant degree /advanced Diploma with major

in disaster management supported by extensive disaster

management training.

DMISA Registration: Practitioner (DMPc) at date of appointment. Minimum 8 years or more experience in the field of Disaster (Risk) Management, of which 2 years at Senior Disaster

Management Officer and 2 years at Disaster Management

Officer level, or of which 4 years at Disaster Management

Officer or equivalent level.

Relevant senior supervisory / managerial experience in Disaster Management including pro-active disaster risk

reduction and reactive disaster responsive activities and acting

experience at Area /Portfolio Head /Deputy Chief Disaster

Management Officer level

A valid Code B driver’s licence Computer literacy: MS Office No criminal record Must be able to work long hours on site at any time under any weather conditions and traverse rough terrain, with 24/7

standby/availability on rostered basis.

Key Performance Areas

Establish, develop and maintain an effective and efficient area- based disaster risk management (DRM) organisation,

encompassing all disaster risk management activities for a

defined geographical area in compliance with the Disaster

Management Act and international best practice in disaster risk

reduction and response.

Manage disaster risk management functions including the implementation of municipal DRM policy, the functioning of

forums and structures; stakeholder participation and

engagement; disaster risk assessment, disaster risk reduction,

disaster response and recovery, information and communication,

logistics, and volunteers.

Manage risk reduction, awareness, training and preparedness support for commerce and industry, institutions, major hazard
