About this role
Job Title: Security Officer
Job Description
The Security Officer monitors and patrols four commercial buildings in the North Cargo area of SeaTac Airport for a small, family-owned property management company. This role focuses on observation, reporting, and routine rounds rather than physical intervention, and involves working independently overnight while staying in close contact with local operations and law enforcement support.
Responsibilities
• Report to the main office located on the second floor of Building A at the start of each shift.
• Review and follow daily and weekly rotation checklists to plan security rounds and monitoring activities.
• Monitor security camera feeds to observe building exteriors, hallways, and common areas for unusual activity.
• Conduct regular walking rounds of interior hallways and exterior areas of all four buildings within walking distance.
• Use a motorized cart when needed to move supplies or support building operations, as directed.
• Visually inspect doors, access points, and common areas to ensure they are secure and free of hazards.
• Maintain a visible presence in and around the buildings to deter unauthorized activity.
• Communicate promptly with the local Operations Manager regarding any concerns, irregularities, or maintenance issues observed during rounds.
• Contact Port of Seattle police or the Operations Manager quickly in the event of any security incident or suspicious activity, rather than intervening directly.
• Document observations throughout the shift as needed to support accurate end-of-shift reporting.
• Complete a concise written report or summary at the end of each shift, detailing rounds completed, issues observed, and any actions taken.
• Interact professionally with tenants during rounds when needed, while recognizing that tenants are responsible for security inside their own office spaces.
• Follow all site-specific procedures related to access control, reporting, and communication.
• Adhere to all Port of Seattle and airport-area security and safety requirements, including SIDA-related rules once cleared.
Essential Skills
• At least 1 year of experience as a security guard or in a similar security role preferred.
• Proven experience conducting security monitoring, including camera observation and physical rounds.
• Ability to complete accurate written reports and shift summaries.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge, including successful completion of the Port of Seattle backgrounds check and compliant identification.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to walk up and down stairs regularly to access the main office.
• Ability to spend most of the shift standing or walking while completing rounds.
• Comfort working independently during overnight hours (Tuesday through Saturday, 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Prior experience working in an industrial, warehouse, or airport operations environment is beneficial.
• Strong observational skills and attention to detail when monitoring cameras and facilities.
• Ability to follow structured checklists and rotation schedules consistently.
• Comfort communicating with operations staff, law enforcement, and building tenants in a professional manner.
• Self-motivated and comfortable working with minimal direct supervision.
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a secure and orderly environment.
Why Work Here?
You will work with a small, family-owned and operated property management company that values independence, trust, and straightforward communication. The role offers a high degree of autonomy, allowing you to work independently while still having the support of a local operations manager and maintenance staff. The environment is practical and low on distractions, with minimal public interaction and few front-desk style demands, which can be ideal if you prefer focused, routine security work. The consistent overnight schedule supports predictable work-life planning for those who favor night shifts.
Work Environment
This role is based in an office on the second floor of Building A within a group of Transiplex buildings in the North Cargo area of SeaTac Airport. The setting is an industrial airport operations area that includes offices, warehouses, repair shops, and freight desks, rather than a large corporate office with extensive amenities. The Security Officer spends most of the shift on foot, conducting interior hallway and exterior building rounds, with all buildings located within walking distance. A motorized cart is available for moving supplies when needed. Parking is available on site. The position involves virtually no interaction with the general public; occasional contact is primarily with building tenants during rounds. The work is performed during overnight hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM, in a practical, operations-focused environment that prioritizes function over amenities.
