About this role
Main Functions:
The ICU staff nurse is responsible for providing care to patients who are experiencing or are at-risk for experiencing life-threatening conditions. Nursing service in this unit offers the expertise in handling emergency situation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ø Provides patient care as well as education and support to the patient’s family.
Ø Ensure that life support equipment, such as ventilators and feeding tubes, function properly.
Ø Observes the patient’s heart rate, blood pressure and respiration for signs of distress.
Ø Sees to it that every used equipment in the unit functions well.
Ø Assess and monitors the patient closely in order to identify subtle changes in a patient’s condition that warrant immediate intervention.
Ø Interprets, integrate and respond to a wide array of clinical information.
Ensures that the patient and/or family are well informed about the care that the patient is receiving, that the patient and family receive the necessary information to make a informed and highly personal decisions about the patient’s care, and that the patient and family’s decisions are respected in the development of any treatment plan for the patient.
Employment Requirements:
Ø Knowledge, skills and abilities: Working knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, employees, the public and other agencies.
Ø Education: a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Ø Necessary special requirement: Possession of a license or permit to practice as a registered nurse as issued by the Professional Regulation Commission permits to be used only until such time as a decision on licensure is made.
Ø Must be of good moral character.
Ø Has extensive experience in the ICU.
Ø With Critical Care Training Program or any supporting evidence such as a training certificate or employment certificate indicating ICU assignment.
